This month we’re watching A Matter of Life and Death (1946), a fantasy romantic drama written, produced and directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. It stars David Niven, Roger Livesey, Raymond Massey, Kim Hunter and Marius Goring. Set in England during World War II, the film is about a British wartime aviator who cheats death, then must argue for his life before a celestial court, hoping to prolong his fledgling romance with an American girl. In 1999, the film placed 20th on the British Film Institute's list of Best 100 British films.
