The Branford Land Trust Winter 2025 Speaker Series continues with “Recovering Kinship with the Living Earth: Spiritual Ecology and Local Environmental Renewal” with Sam King.

In the face of ecological crises, how can we restore our deep kinship with the living Earth community?  In this talk, Sam King will share insights from his studies of Buddhism in rural Sri Lanka and his work at the crossroads of ecology, cosmology, and religion to explore the spiritual dimensions of environmental stewardship. Drawing on the teachings of cultural historian Thomas Berry, King will examine how recovering a sense of the sacred — rooted in both our ancestral traditions and the unfolding story of the Universe — can inspire grassroots movements for climate resilience and ecological regeneration along the Connecticut shoreline.

Sam King is an educator, writer, speaker, facilitator, and environmentalist. As Director of Sustainability for the Marist school network, he works with youth leaders across the country to promote grassroots engagement on climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and environmental injustice. He also serves as a Research Associate for the Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology and Project Manager for the Emmy Award-winning Journey of the Universe film and multimedia project, curating a monthly newsletter and hosting a podcast where he speaks with influential scientists, artists, spiritual leaders, and environmentalists. An avid gardener, forager, and outdoorsman, he lives on ancestral Quinnipiac land in New Haven, CT.

The Branford Land Trust Winter 2025 Speaker Series is made possible by a grant from the Branford Community Foundation and Guilford Savings Bank.
