Join us for a musical afternoon with The Broken Reed Saxophone Quartet! This concert will feature original songs as well as recomposed tango classics using characteristic tango touches along with a modern jazz harmonic sensibility, jazz phrasing and the improvisational language of jazz.

About the Artist:

Charley Gerard is a saxophonist, author and composer. He is a 2019 recipient of the prestigious New Jazz Works grant from Chamber Music America with the generous support of the Doris Duke Foundation. and the 2024 Jazz Road touring grant. Both grants are supported by the Doris Duke Foundation.

Charley started The Broken Reed Saxophone Quartet in 2002. As of 2024 the group is Lily White on soprano sax, Dimitri Moderbacher on baritone sax, Charley on alto sax, and Jeff Newell on tenor.

Together, they transport their audience everywhere, from Mozart to New Orleans to Cuba, to the pages of poetry and popular culture. As its name implies, the group is as linked by its sense of humor as it is by its unique sound.
