Join experienced angler and educator, Mark Gostkiewicz, for an immersive deep-dive into bottom fishing in Long Island Sound. Whether you’re a new boat owner, a head-boat voyager, or a shore angler looking to take your skills to deeper waters, this workshop is designed to turn "fishing trips" into "catching trips."
The Sound is a complex and beautiful ecosystem, but finding the fish requires more than just luck. In this class, we’ll take the guesswork out of your time on the water. From decoding underwater topography to mastering the perfect bottom rig, you’ll learn the exact strategies Mark uses to bring home a fresh harvest from the sea.
- Digital Scouting Mastery: Learn how to read bathymetric charts and use modern apps to identify the ledges, drop-offs, sandy shoals, and rock piles where fish hide.
- Mastering the Drift: Discover how to use tides, currents, and GPS to keep your boat over the "strike zone" longer.
- Targeting the "Big Three": Get the inside scoop on the specific habits and habitats of Fluke, Black Sea Bass, and Scup (Porgy).
- The Rigging Roadmap: See firsthand how to tie and use the most effective bottom bait rigs, including high-low rigs and 3-way rigs. You'll learn what materials to use and how to scale them up and down for different conditions.
- Bait & Tackle Tactics: Learn when to use natural baits like clam, spearing, and squid versus synthetic alternatives to "match the hatch." This is a bait fishing class, but we'll also learn
- Boating Safety & Local Knowledge: Navigate the Sound’s unique challenges, from handling the chop to understanding the "Race" and local reefs.
Like all Tri Gable Lea workshops, we focus on sustainable practices and respect for our local ecosystems. You’ll learn how to harvest responsibly so we can keep the Sound thriving for generations to come.
Registration is required to attend this IN PERSON event.
