Caring for our natural landscape is more important than ever. You may have heard about the value of growing native plants to help support local pollinators, but did you know it's possible to cultivate your own plants from wild seeds you harvest yourself? Join us for a special one-time only opportunity to collect native seeds on Land Trust Property! The Seed Discovery Walk will be on Saturday, October 28 at Jarvis Creek Farm with Dan Brubaker, Conservation Outreach Manager at the Greenwich Land Trust. He'll teach you how to identify some native plant species and some seeds we collect may be used for future ecological restoration projects by the Land Trust.
Registration is required to attend this IN PERSON event.
Presented by the The Branford Conservation and Environment Commission and the Branford Land Trust.
Jarvis Creek Farm is just southeast of 710 Leetes Island Road (Medlyn farmstand on route 146). There is limited parking so please carpool if possible! There are 2 places to park:
- In the new gravel parking area on JCF. Traffic flow here on ONE WAY, so you MUST enter from the west and exit from the east. You’ll see the entrance and exit marked by signs. Park along the row of boulders parallel with 146. There is room for about 10 cars here. See attached map.
- Just a little farther east along 146, there is a pullout on the south side under the banner that reads “Jarvis Creek Farm”. There is room for 5-6 cars here if parked carefully. Once parked, walk under the banner and follow the trail by foot a short way up the hill to the open meadow on the right.
