Join us for an inspiring event designed to help you lean into your unique identity and sense of belonging. Enjoy engaging speakers, including Sahar Amjad, Jillian Celentano, LMSW, and Nina Sutton, LPCA, plus creative activities such as meditative coloring pages and collage vision/empowerment boards. This event is open to everyone who is looking to become more comfortable with who they are. Snacks and refreshments provided. Representatives from the New Haven Pride Center will have a table with information and resources. Event presented by Sound Health and Wellness.
About the Speakers:
Sahar Amjad is a queer, small business owner who founded her photography LLC, Sahar Amjad Photography, in May of 2024. She graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in psychological sciences. She is the Media Director for Supporting Pan-Asian Resources Collective (SPARC) and has always been a passionate advocate for AAPI visibility. As she works to grow her business, she strives to highlight women of color, queer individuals, while also showcasing her own South Asian heritage.
Jillian Celentano is a transgender woman who began her transition in 2016 at the age of 55. She received her master's degree in social work at age 61. She is a licensed psychotherapist, social worker, advocate, and has organized support groups for transgender/gender diverse children and young adults. Jillian was a research assistant in the LGBTQ+ relationship studies lab at Albertus Magnus College, GSA instructor, she also co-authored two published transgender studies at Yale University and is a published author of her book, "Transitioning Later in Life: A Personal Guide.” She is a Medical Educator/Standardized Patient at Yale University and Quinnipiac University, and is now working at a private practice as a licensed therapist and educator for the transgender/gender expansive community
Nina Sutton guides clients toward recognizing and embracing their unique talents and abilities. As a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, she uses a trauma-informed approach to establish a safe space for clients, fostering trust and guiding individuals to navigate the world, empowering them to live to their fullest potential. Nina employs evidence-based theories such as CBT, Mindfulness, ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) and Narrative therapy to treat various mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and neurodiversity. Her multicultural understanding supports each client's unique healing process. Inspired by the stories, gardens, and cooking of her immigrant family, Nina continues to appreciate her heritage and other cultures through her own love of cooking. She believes in the importance of self-care, feeding both the soul and the body.
