Experience the 2000-year old art form of Bharatanatyam, an exquisite classical dance from southern India that traces its origins back to the Natyashastra, an ancient treatise on theatre written by the sage Bharata. Aishwarya Lakshmi Ratan will share a set of pieces using a workshop format, explaining the history and meaning behind the elements of the form and some of the featured narratives, before performing the choreographies.
About Aishwarya Lakshmi Ratan
Aishwarya Lakshmi Ratan, resident of Branford and Deputy Director of the Economic Growth Center at Yale University, has studied and performed Bharatanatyam since age 10 and received her dance education from Guru Vasanta Vedam in Bangalore, India. She has performed for numerous critical audiences in India and the US over two decades now, including for the State Television network in India, at the Indian Institute of World Culture and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Bangalore, India, and at the Thomas Center in Gainesville, Florida, more recently. She now teaches Indian classical dance in Branford.
